Topic: Door Handle Removal

I'm trying to remove the inner door panel on a 1934 Coupe, but haven't been able to remove the inside door handle. I can pry the escutcheon plate between the door handle and the door panel away from the handle enough to see the pin that holds the handle to the shaft, but can't get enough clearance between the handle and the escutcheon at both sides of the pin at the same time to get the pin out. It could be that my fear of damaging something is causing me not to apply the force to by golly get it out, but I'm suspecting there may be some step I've left out or some trick to make handle removal not so hard. Any tips or ideas would be appreciated.

Take a finishing nail or similar small pointed object and drive the pin as you or a helper works the bottom of the escutcheon. I usually push the escutcheon in towards the door panel VERY hard then use the finishing nail and a small hammer to tap the pin out.

Bob Drake sells a tool that will help with the pin removal and makes it a one person job.
